iPhone Features You Didn’t Know About that Protect Your Privacy

Smart phone usage has become the standard in modern business. Many companies encourage and even supplement the mobile connectivity of their employees so they can stay in touch and productive when they are away from the office. But issues of security are still of concern when it comes to communicating sensitive information via mobile device. Luckily, one of the most popular smart phones is fully equipped with security features that will help protect your privacy when working on the go. Read on to learn what you can do to keep your iPhone secure.

Improved Passcode Security

As of iOS 9, Apple has allowed for the use of a 6 digit passcode rather than the more commonly used 4 digit passcode. The addition of two more numbers is enough to make guessing a password substantially more difficult. With a 6 digit passcode, there are one million different potential combinations that hackers would have to sort through in order to find the right series of numbers. With 4 digit passcodes, more common in Android devices, there are only 10,000 different combinations available. Make sure you are using an effective passcode that is difficult to guess but still easy to remember.

Erased Data

iPhones also have the feature of erasing all data after 10 failed passcode attempts. This is a feature that users must opt in to by selecting the option under the Touch ID and Passcode section in Settings. If you are concerned about the threat of someone with ill intentions getting a hold of your phone, this option adds an extra layer of security for your peace of mind.

Two-Step Verification

Apple has also provided the option to use two-step verification to add an additional level of security. With this feature selected, Apple will send a verification code to a previously verified device. That code can then be used to sign in from the new device. This method helps prevent fraudulent logins and password theft on a wide range of applications.

Limit Ad-Tracking

Advertisers find a great deal of value in the information they receive through ad-tracking. Usage and click-through rates, views, how long you engage with an advertisement, and other metrics all provide extremely valuable information to advertisers for free. If you are interested in keeping your personal ad usage information personal, you can limit ad-tracking by going to the Settings and Privacy section of your phone and turn on the option Limit Ad Tracking. Apply then requires the apps you use to remove your information from ad tracking to maintain your privacy.
