How to turn around a bad morning to kickstart a productive day

Starting your day right can make such a big difference in terms of your productivity. A bad morning can similarly slow you down. But know that there are some things you can do to turn your day around. Here are some tips to help you turn a bad day into a great one.

Get Intentional with Your Time

In the rush to get everything done (hectic mornings can be the worst), it’s very easy to get lost in the thrash. Remember that in order to get everything done, you need to be very intentional with your time, both at home and at work. Know what’s most important for you to do today. Figure out what the priorities are at work. Balance out needs to be done now and what can wait for tomorrow. A to-do list can be helpful here, but it’s not enough just to write everything out. You need to prioritize the items and block out time to accomplish those goals. Getting hyper-focused about what you want to get done will help you know how to spend your time, and make space for that productivity.

Get Moving

Exercise is a documented stress-buster. If you are having a hard start to the day, try to make some time to hit the gym. Or go for a walk or run. It’s hard to make it a priority when things get really busy. But making sure to incorporate it into your day can really help combat stress and burnout which are the two biggest threats to productivity. It helps retain focus when you are back at your desk and improves mood at the same time.

Go to Bed on Time

Sometimes the best thing you can do for a productive day needs to be done the night before. If you’re like most folks, it can be a challenge to say when exactly you fall asleep. Whether you’re up late working or watching tv, those evening hours are much better put toward getting the rest you need. Go to bed on time. Make sure you are getting the amount of sleep and the quality of sleep your body needs to conquer your goals.  It’ll help your body actively bust up stress that’s weighing you down during the day and help you conquer your to do list.

Try an Attitude Adjustment

If you’re finding yourself fighting against bad day after a bad day, or are just not feeling like you are in a positive place with your work, chances are that you could really use an attitude check. If you are tired from a long weekend or are otherwise not fully focused on the work, don’t fall into the routine of cutting yourself too much slack. Try to convince yourself that work time is for being productive, and use that energy to kick start your can-do attitude. Breaks are important and without them we all risk burnout. But if we are having trouble getting into the right frame of mind, some positive self-talk and surrounding yourself with equally motivated people can be just what you need to get the most out of your day.
