The power behind a tiny act of kindness

Happiness is the ultimate goal, or at least what most people are working to achieve. It can mean different things to different people, but the way to get there is pretty similar, no matter who you are and what you do for your work. Kindness is key. Here are four small ways you can change your life and become a lot happier through small but powerful acts of kindness.

Ditch the Critic

Perfection is in most cases unachievable and certainly unsustainable. Good enough is most often what will make you happy. Figure out at what point your good enough state is capable of making you happy, and work to achieve that. Being kind to others and yourself in the face of potential criticism can make a world of difference. Chasing or expecting perfection can be stressful and inevitably damaging to self-worth and peace of mind. Learn to lean into kindness rather than criticism.

There’s No Such Thing as Small Kindness

Kindness in its various forms always have a synergistic impact. Acts of kindness make others feel good, but they make you feel great. Doing something seemingly insignificant for someone like holding a door open, sharing an umbrella, stopping to help someone carry something heavy, can turn a bad day around. It shows care for others who might be struggling otherwise. There is a lot of negativity in the world these days, but sharing words or acts of kindness do a lot for your mood. They help build connection with others and creates a world where simple positivity and gratitude can have a powerful impact.

Shifting Focus From Self

Focusing entirely on your self doesn’t actually do much for your personal happiness. Helping others, and making others feel happy goes a lot farther in improving your life. It’s surprising really that it has quite the opposite effect. When we focus on others, on being kind and giving, we in turn make our own lives better without even trying.

Perform Random Acts of Kindness

It’s amazing what a simple act of kindness can do for your own wellbeing. Making other people happy can also have a big impact on your own happiness levels. Little acts of kindness can be anything from sharing a complement with someone, leaving a nice note for a loved one, or even buying a coffee for the person behind you in line. Little things that you do simply out of wanting to make someone else’s day a little better can give you a real happiness boost, especially when they’re unexpected. That kindness in tern promotes empathy and compassion, leading to a sense of interconnectedness with others. Compassion and kindness reduce stress, boost our immune systems, and help reduce negative emotions such as anger, anxiety, and depression. All that adds up to a happier state of mind just from doing something nice for someone else. Give it a try!
